A special World Slide Summit presentation with Lucky Oceans and Praashekh Borkar will feature at the next World Music Café Dinner & Show event, along with the Persian Moaj Trio, at the Mt Lawley Bowling Club Function Room on Friday 21 June 2024.
Lucky Oceans is a multi-Grammy award-winning pedal steel musician, originally from the US, who is collaborating with Praashekh Borkar, an accomplished Indian sarod musician, originally from Pune in India.
The high-quality creative collaboration features a cross-cultural interpretation of slide instrumentation from diverse musical genres accompanied by a global rhythm section.
“It’s very exciting to musically explore this combination of global ‘slide’ sonic styles with such quality artists,” said World Music Café producer and facilitator, Jon Cope.
The show opens with a wonderful set of traditional Persian music by the Moaj Trio featuring Afshin Darab on vocals, Reza Mirzaei on saz, and Saeed Danesh on daf and tombak.
The World Music Café Dinner & Show experience is enhanced by a delicious South American menu created by Venezuelan caterer, Tamara Rodriguez and her team.
World Music Café is a social enterprise created in 2019 that provides economic and social connection for the crew members of new migrant and refugee backgrounds. Described as ‘An Oasis of Integration in Our Country’ by the UWA Centre for Social Impact, World Music Café was a ‘Social Entrepreneur of the Year’ finalist in the Australian 2022 Third Sector Awards.
